The Wandering Path Series - Inspiration
The Wandering Path series draws inspiration from Bargello needlework, a traditional flame-stitch technique where rhythmic patterns emerge through the meticulous shifting of stitches. Historically seen in upholstery and even accessories like wallets and pocketbooks in the 1800s, Bargello reflects the beauty of structured creativity. Like many traditional crafts—tile-work, quilting, weaving, or lattice-work—it embodies a harmonious balance between order and artistry that I find endlessly inspiring.
The Wandering Path also reflects something deeply personal: the idea that life’s most meaningful journeys are rarely straight. While we often aim for clarity and direction, it’s in the detours, meanders, and unexpected moments that we discover life’s true richness.
Each piece in this series captures that philosophy. And although the pathways in my compositions appear to wander, ironically they are built entirely from precise, straight lines. The shimmer, texture, and natural variations in the straw bring these pathways to life, creating a sense of movement and inviting discovery. The result is art that feels both grounding and captivating—an invitation to pause and reflect, while celebrating the beauty of the unexpected.
